Meet Jason
Respected Prosecutor, Experienced in Criminal Justice
Jason Sanders is an Assistant District Attorney in Rock County. He has almost a decade of experience in criminal trial work, as both a prosecutor and defense attorney. He started as a prosecutor in Dane County, spent several years at the Public Defender's Office in Janesville, and then was hired by District Attorney David O'Leary to return to prosecution in Rock County. He currently serves as the Vice President of the Rock County Bar Association.
Jason prioritizes aggressive prosecution of the most dangerous, violent criminals, and embraces common-sense programs to help low-risk and first-time offenders turn their lives around — in part because it is the right thing to do, and in part because it allows prosecutors to focus on the most dangerous, violent criminals.
Invested in Family and Community
Jason and his wife, Shanna, live in Janesville with their blended family of children, most of whom are currently enrolled in Janesville schools. Shanna is also an attorney, Rock County's Deputy Corporation Counsel. In addition to their jobs in public service, they have both been involved with local youth services, with Shanna serving as the treasurer for the PTA while Jason coached youth basketball at the YMCA.
Jason was born in Delavan, WI and earned a Bachelors Degree from St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI. He worked as a teacher and football/basketball coach on the Lac Courte Oreilles reservation before going to law school at the University of Wisconsin, where he was an editor on the Wisconsin Law Review and president of the Indigenous Law Students Association. He is an enrolled member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa (Ojibwe).
